medcan-2020

It’s good news for New Zealand as the country embarks on their first cannabis conference. Medcan Summit 2020 is New Zealand’s first medical summit.  The details surrounding the local medical scheme were announced last year.  Since then, steps have been taken to start production, including extensive research and applying for a manufacturing license in preparation for commercial cultivation.

The county is still oblivious to the full benefits of cannabis. Medical cannabis can be beneficial to patients, it will also boost the country's economy by creating exporting opportunities aiding in the country's GDP. New Zealand will operate its medical cannabis via GMP (Good manufacturing practice). This will preserve the quality of cannabinoid-based medicine. This extra safety precaution will ensure that medical staff are prescribing safe products.

While Cannabis is a go in the medical field, in the preliminary legalizing cannabis for recreational use still gets a no. The Referendum voters opposed the legalization of cannabis and now it is only available for medical patients. The ruling will cause delays in local production, with the cost being a huge factor. The law makes it very unaffordable for medical patients to even get access.  At the moment, only expensive overseas cannabis is available.

The MedCan summit will help the country gain a scientific and medical understanding of cannabis, as well as viewing its economic growth potential for the country. New Zealand could see millions in extra export dollars in the future. Dr. Zahra Champion, Executive Director of BioTechnz and MedCan summit 2020 said that “New Zealand is well placed to play a key role in the fast-growing global medical cannabis industry.” Which by 2020 could be worth $55 billion dollars by 2025.

Backed by science, technology, and clinical trials, New Zealand is positioned to develop high-quality products. The summit will take place on Nov 9th and Nov 10th. Health professionals are encouraged to attend the summit. The conference will showcase 30 of the world’s local experts presenting both the health and economic benefits of cannabis use.
